It will be argued that the rise of social inequalities, and its intersections to class, ethnicity, nationality, and gender, is by and large the outcome of the current stage of financial capitalism. Focusing on the European periphery, it will be shown how this is the outcome of structural changes occurring at various scales, connecting transformations at the macro level to the daily lives of citizens. Housing will be used in the identification of the transmission mechanisms connecting processes of capital accumulation to the degradation of the living conditions of a growing mass of the population with increasingly severe impacts on the most vulnerable groups.

A apresentação argumenta que o aumento das desigualdades sociais e as suas interseções de classe, etnia, nacionalidade e género são, em grande parte, o resultado da atual etapa do capitalismo financeiro. Com foco na periferia europeia, será mostrado como isso é resultado de mudanças estruturais que ocorrem em várias escalas, conectando transformações no nível macro ao cotidiano dos cidadãos. A habitação será utilizada na identificação dos mecanismos de transmissão que ligam os processos de acumulação de capital à degradação das condições de vida de uma massa crescente da população com impactos cada vez mais graves nos grupos mais vulneráveis.
