Arzu Merali é escritora, investigadora e ativista na área dos direitos humanos. O seu percurso académico incluí diplomas em literatura inglesa, direito e relações internacionais no Universidade de Cambridge, no Universidade Nottingham Trent e no Universidade de Kent. É co-fundadora e dirige atualmente o departamento de investigação do Comissão Islâmica para os Direitos Humanos (Islamic Human Rights Commission – IHRC), uma organização sem fins lucrativos, sediado em Londres, com estatuto consultivo junto do Conselho Económico e Social do Nações Unidas, que promove campanhas, investigação e advocacia, lutando pela justiça para todas as pessoas independentemente da raça, confissão religiosa ou identificação política. Foi editora principal do Palestine Internationalist, um jornal on-line centrado em questões da luta pela libertação da Palestina e do povo palestino. Arzu Merali organizou livros e escreve frequentemente artigos sobre o Islão, os direitos humanos e outros assuntos para publicações académicas e não académicas.[PT]


[EN] Arzu Merali: writer, researcher and activist in the field of human rights. Her academic career includes degrees in English literature, law and international relations at Cambridge University, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Kent. Merali co-founded and currently directs the research department of the Islamic Commission for Human Rights (Islamic Human Rights Commission – IHRC), a non-profit organisation, based in London, with consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council promoting campaigns, research and advocacy, struggling for justice for all people regardless of race, religious belief or political identification. Was chief editor of the Palestine Internationalist, an online newspaper focusing on issues of struggle for the liberation of Palestine and the Palestinian people. Arzu Merali organised books and frequently writes articles about Islam, human rights and other subjects for academic and non-academic publications.
